Pocket rocket gaming in 2012

The Nintendo DSi makes hardcore racing games available wherever you are so you always have a rocket in your pocket, ready to let loose. Here are some of the hottest, most fast paced racing games available on the handheld system as of 2012.

Mario Kart DS
This one is a no-brainer. Obviously you've got to start any collection of Nintendo racing games with Mario Kart. With throwbacks to the series' roots, the game looks as good as Mario Kart 64 and plays as tightly as Mario Kart. The handheld, small screen system really puts Mario Kart where it belongs and the bold colours really shine on the system. There's nothing like playing a Kart racing game from the backseat of the car.

Need for Speed Underground 2
Blending arcade with simulation style gameplay, the Need for Speed series has scarcely had a weak entry. The more recent games let you play as the cops or the racers and follow specific storylines to each mode as well as play against other racers online and rank yourself on a worldwide leader board. Need for Speed Underground 2 puts that action in your pocket and in your hot little hands where it belongs.

Race Driver: Create and Race
One of the biggest things in DS games is customization and Race Driver is all about letting you create your own gaming experience. From the cars to the tracks, Race Driver is a from-the-ground-up racing game, allowing you to have all the freedom in the world to create exactly the sort of racing game experience you want. If you want a more arcade like experience, create a track full of crazy loops and twists and durable cars. If you want a simulation feel, go for more realistic tracks and vehicles, it's up to you.
